PEEK—— the well-deserved king of plastics

27 - Mar - 2025

PEEK is a high-performance thermoplastic commonly used in demanding engineering applications. PEEK has proven to excel in a wide range of applications where parts require excellent mechanical properties and chemical resistance at elevated temperatures.

This polymer is highly versatile and resistant to high temperatures, but comes at a higher price than many other engineering thermoplastics. However, PEEK stands out for its thermal stability, mechanical properties, and chemical compatibility in lightweight and durable parts that withstand even challenging operating conditions.

Main features:

1.High temperature resistance: The melting point of PEEK plastic is about 343°C, the long-term use temperature can reach 250°C, and it can withstand high temperatures above 300°C in the short term.

2.Mechanical strength: PEEK has high strength and rigidity, and also has good fatigue resistance and wear resistance.

3.Chemical stability: PEEK exhibits excellent corrosion resistance to most chemicals and solvents, and is suitable for use in harsh chemical environments.

4.Electrical insulation: PEEK has good electrical insulation properties and is suitable for electronic and electrical applications.

5.Biocompatibility: PEEK materials are widely used in the medical field, such as implants and surgical instruments, because of their good biocompatibility and sterilizability.

PEEK—— the well-deserved king of plastics

Applications:

1.Medical & Biopharma - Medical-grade

PEEK can withstand a variety of sterilization methods and is suitable for a variety of healthcare applications, from surgical instruments and tool handles to orthopedic implants and denture abutments.

2.Chemical Handling & Advanced Fluid Management

PEEK can withstand a wide range of chemicals and temperature ranges, making it an ideal material for parts in chemically aggressive applications, such as labyrinth seals, gaskets, O-rings and pumps.

3.Food, Beverage, Pharmaceutical & Packaging

Food-grade PEEK has low wear rates and is suitable for cleaning in place, making it one of the materials of choice for high-wear and high-impact parts in the food and pharmaceutical industries, such as conveyor parts, scrapers, wear strips, rails, rollers, gears and slides.

4.Aerospace, Automotive & Transportation

With a significantly higher strength-to-weight ratio than metal, PEEK is also a suitable material for transportation applications. It can combine high performance with lightweight characteristics to improve fuel efficiency.
