EPDM is a synthetic rubber with excellent weather resistance, high temperature resistance and oxidation resistance, and is widely used in multiple industries.
Performance and advantages of EPDM Rubber
1.Low density and high filling capacity:
EPDM Rubber is a rubber with low density, and it can be filled with a lot of oil and fillers, thus reducing the cost of rubber products.
2.Aging resistance:
EPDM Rubber has excellent weather resistance, ozone resistance, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance, water vapor resistance, color stability, electrical properties, oil filling and fluidity at room temperature. EPDM Rubber products can be used for a long time at 120°C and for a short time or intermittently at 150-200°C. Adding a suitable antioxidant can increase its use temperature.
3.Corrosion resistance:
Since EPDM Rubber lacks polarity and has a low degree of unsaturation, it has good resistance to various polar chemicals such as alcohols, acids, alkalis, oxidants, refrigerants, detergents, animal and vegetable oils, ketones and fats; but it has poor stability in aliphatic and aromatic solvents (such as gasoline, benzene, etc.) and mineral oils. The performance will also decrease under the long-term action of concentrated acid.
4.Water vapor resistance:
EPDM Rubber has excellent water vapor resistance and better heat resistance. In 230℃ superheated steam, there is no change in appearance after nearly 100 hours.
5.Resistance to superheated water:
EPDM Rubber also has good resistance to superheated water, but it is closely related to the vulcanization system used. After immersing EPDM Rubber with dimorpholine disulfide and TMTD as the vulcanization system in 125℃ superheated water for 15 months, the mechanical properties change very little, and the volume expansion rate is only 0.3%.
6. Electrical properties:
EPDM Rubber has excellent electrical insulation and corona resistance, and its electrical properties are better than or close to those of styrene-butadiene rubber, chlorosulfonated polyethylene, polyethylene and cross-linked polyethylene.
7. Elasticity:
There is no polar substituent in the molecular structure of EPDM Rubber, and the molecular cohesive energy is low. The molecular chain can maintain flexibility in a wide range, second only to natural rubber and butadiene rubber, and can still maintain it at low temperatures.
8. Adhesion:
EPDM Rubber lacks active groups in its molecular structure, has low cohesive energy, and the rubber compound is easy to bloom, so its self-adhesion and mutual adhesion are very poor.
In general, EPDM Rubber is a multifunctional high-quality rubber material with excellent thermal properties, weather resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, electrical insulation and mechanical strength. It is widely used in automobiles, construction, power equipment, pipelines, seals and other fields, providing high-quality material options for all walks of life and promoting the development and progress of industry.
